Staying fit all year round can be a difficult feat. Most people lead busy, stressful lives that get even more busy and stressful during the holidays and other times of the year. So, for many people, fitness takes a backseat. Not only that, the excuses for not staying fit tend to add up throughout the year. With the summer coming to an end, cooler weather is a convenient excuse for not staying fit. Most people don’t want to exercise in the cold.

While you’re on your HCG diet or once you’ve finished, a little creativity can help you eliminate the excuses while maintaining your weight – without having to hit the gym! Modifying daily activities, such as walking or cycling instead of driving, are great ways to maintain year-round fitness.

Work in the Garden

Believe it or not, landscaping and/or gardening can be a good workout. It simply depends on the intensity of your activity. For instance, a few hours of digging and planting is equivalent to strength training and can burn hundreds of calories.

Shovel the Snow

If you live in an area where harsh winters bring plenty of snow, you might be tempted to break out the snowplow or call for help, but it’s best if you can do this one yourself. Shoveling snow is another activity that’s equivalent to strength training. In fact, it combines different types of strength training, targeting different areas of your body. If you really want a work out, volunteer to shovel some of your neighbours’ walkways and/or stairs. But, remember to have a checkup to ensure you’re healthy enough for such strenuous activity in harsh weather conditions.

Play with the Kids at the Playground

Playgrounds aren’t just for kids. In fact, some playgrounds are designed with features that can accommodate both kids and adults. Swings are a great source of exercise along with slides, seesaws, climbing nets and other playground obstacles. Playing is a great way to get in some cardio, get some fresh air and connect with your kids. Plan to play with the kids each time you visit the playground.

Commute Alternatively to Work

Finding alternative ways to commute to work, such as walking or cycling, is a good way to remain fit and eco-friendly. Cycling or walking at a fast pace provides a strengthening and cardio workout. Commuting to work one of these ways a few times a week will improve your fitness and help you save on gas.
